Rev. Martin Ampomah was the second chairperson of HEM. He worked with the Ministry for 34years but had been in the Gospel Ministry for 53years. Born on 6th December 1944 at Abetifi-Kwahu in the Eastern Region of Ghana to Opanin Felix Ampomah and Madam Jane Amponsah, both deceased, Rev. Dr. Ampomah was brought up in a strict traditional Kwahu-home. He had his education at Abetifi, Nkawkaw and Koforidua. He learnt the art of trading from his uncles. For years he worked at the Messrs G.B. Olivant at Nkawkaw and Nsawam.
At 19 he was converted as a Christian through series of divine interventions. According to him, everything in his life was credited to shear Grace of God. In 1969, he was called into the Ministry and completed his Bible training at the Church of God Ghana Bible Institute, Kumasi. At the same school he served as Dean and teacher from 1969 – 1974.
He labored these years to impact biblical knowledge and principles to his students one of whom was the late Rev. Ola Akin. Again for years he was both the Dean and teacher at the C.A.C Bible School in Kumasi. He was a teacher at many other Bible Schools. They include Faith School of Evangelism,
Vanguard College, Hope Institute and Principal at School of The Word. Rev. Dr. Ampomah got married to Margaret Ohemeng (a.k.a. Akosua Kwane) on 8th July 1978. They were blessed with five strong men with eleven grandchildren (and are still counting).
Rev. Dr. Ampomah had a rare privilege of association with Apostle P.N. Anim, founder of C.A.C and a credited father of Pentecostalism in Ghana. His association with Apostle Anim, according to him, had a profound influence on his life and ministry. Again, his association and the impact he had from Apostle Anim and the fire brand apostles in the C.A.C. influenced the positions he held in the Church. First as the Administrator, General Secretary and Acting Vice President of C.A.C.
Rev. Dr. Ampomah travelled all over Europe for preaching and training purposes particularly the United Kingdom. He mentored close ties with many friends and spiritual children in the USA, Australia, Asia and many African countries. Rev. Ampomah was honest, gentle and respectful man of God. He was a disciplined and skillful leader and for many years combined humility and firmness to nurture Christian workers, both pastors and lay leaders, to the height of success as an astute Bible School teacher. He was also interested in fund raising to support humanitarian projects and activities.
The Dabaa Hope Hospital and another health facility at Esianimpong in the Ashanti region are evidences to his fund-raising prowess for such projects. Rev. Ampomah has inspired the founding of several churches and ministries. He has also administered many churches and served as father and mentor to many the world over. After 53years in active ministration of the Gospel and 34 years with HEM, Rev. Martin Ampomah retired from the active ministry in September 2022. His position as Chairman, and his 34years of glamorous services to the ministry called for the organization of a befitting retirement service to honor him.
A 9-member Committee chaired by Rev. Kyenkyehene was therefore raised to organize the service. Lo and behold on Saturday 15th April a Retirement Service was held at the Ola Akin Temple, Bantama-Kumasi. It was a grand durbar of both young and old, active and retired. Rev. and Mrs. Ampomah were honored in cash and citations. The citations came from the Faith Convention, Management and Staff of Dabaa Hope Hospital and HEM Trustee Board.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a citation and an award of an honorary PhD degree in Theology by the Board and Management of the School of the Word in Kumasi. His children also honored him with a citation which touched the hearts of many.
The Retirement Service was rounded off with a Thanksgiving Service the next day, Sunday 16th April. In attendance at the Retirement and Thanksgiving Services were some Guest of Honors and some dignitaries in the Gospel Ministry. Hon. Andy Osei Okrah, former Ashanti Deputy Regional Minister, Hon. Samuel Yaw Adusei former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing were present. Justice Attaa Nyarko, a district Court judge, was also present.
Some men of the Gospel, also present were Rev. Alfred Nyamekye, President of House of Faith Ministries, Rev. Douglas Okona Frimpong, Overseer of Christian Outreach Ministry and Chairman of Faith Convention and Rev. Owusu Achiaw Overseer of Come Preach Christ (CPC) Ministry. Also in attendance were Rev. Charles Okrah, Overseer of Faith Gospel Church and Rev. Samuel Otoo (Rtd) former Overseer of Redemption Hour of Faith Ministry.
Rev. Otoo was the Guest speaker for the Retirement Service, while Rev. Stephen Agyen delivered the Thanksgiving Service Sermon on the Sunday. Traditional Rulers were also not left out. Those who graced the occasion with their presence were Nana Wiredu Akokro Panin III, Atwima Denchemuosohene who doubles as Atwima Akwamuhene, Nana Adu Gyamfi Odikro of Atwima Dabaa and Nana Yaw Gyamfi Soodohene of Asante Nsuta Traditional Area. The two ceremonies, the Retirement and the Thanksgiving Services received cool days with the presence and blessings of God. His Name be praised
